Boo Boo Memorial - The first Boo Boo Memorial was held at Belvedere Golf Club in August of 1983. For the first few years, the potluck cookout took place at Jimmy and Susie Fagan’s cottage on Lake Charlevoix before moving to the Charlevoix Yacht Club, then located in the historic train depot next to Depot Beach.

From 1990 through 2010, dinner was held at the Belvedere Clubhouse, after which it moved to the Belvedere Casino. During the COVID years, we gathered at the Lake Michigan Beach pavilion, followed by The Weathervane the next year.

After the Casino burned down last year, we are once again changing venues — this time to the new Charlevoix Yacht Club.

Longevity - After four decades, we look back and wonder how we made it this far.  The longevity of the fund is based on the need for the scholarship.  It’s backed by two large families with roots at the same school, with a desire to honor Betsy and a willingness to volunteer time and effort.  Those who loved Betsy got the ball rolling.  Plenty of generous friends have rallied behind the cause.  New friends and friends of friends have added momentum through the years.  Now, a new generation of Stovers and Fagans have taken up the torch, adding enthusiasm and energy.  The charm of Charlevoix and Belvedere are also important, helping to draw supporters back time and again.
